Honors Program

Program description

The honors program is designed to produce students who exemplify AdventHealth University’s mission to “develop leaders who will practice healthcare as a ministry”. The program provides seminars that focus on leadership, wholistic medicine, and research. Students enrolled in the program will have an opportunity to interview for an AdventHealth graduate program during their junior year. The participating graduate programs are Healthcare Administration, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy.

Admission

To be accepted into the Honors College degree program, students must meet the general requirements for admission to Adventist University of Health Sciences (see General Studies Admission in the Admission Information section), and:

 

  1. Have a minimum cumulative high school unweighted GPA of 3.5.
  2. Have a minimum ACT composite score of 24; or a combined SAT Critical Reading and Mathematics score of 1110; or a combined SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Mathematics score of 1180.
  3. Complete a/the successful interview with the Honors College admission committee.
  4. Be a first-time college student with no credits to transfer except dual enrollment, AP, or IB credits.

Progression

  1. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher in all undergraduate coursework.
  2. Enroll full-time (15 credits or more) two trimesters out of the school year.
  3. Participate in all required colloquiums, advising, service learning, and research.
  4. Pass a mid-program interview with the selected graduate department.

Completion

AdventHealth University will consider students for graduation and conferral of a Bachelor of Science degree when they have met the general University requirements for graduation (see Graduation in the Academic Information section) and have:

  1. Completed a minimum of 124 trimester hours with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50.
  2. Completed the prescribed course of study with a minimum of 42 upper division credits.
  3. Achieved a minimum grade of “C” (2.00) in all science and health science requirements.
  4. Completed competency assessment requirements.
  5. Completed a minimum of 62 trimester hours in residence at AdventHealth University. 
  6. Completed the service-learning requirement.
