Incorporated into the AHS Compliance Program are standards needed to comply with and provide guidance related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (“HIPAA”).  HIPAA provides comprehensive protection for the privacy and security of patient information.

Standards needed to comply with the Florida Hospital Code of Conduct and the Reporting of Non-Compliance Policy, Human Resources Policy Number 800.268 (Effective 03/03/2010) are hereby incorporated into the ADU Compliance Program.

ADU employees should consult the AHS Corporate Compliance policies with any questions about the appropriateness of their business activities, the business activities of other employees, questions on HIPAA or compliance with the communication or dissemination of confidential information, and are to report any suspected violations or other irregularities to their supervisor or the appropriate Compliance Officer.

ADU personnel and students can access the Florida Hospital CompassPoint Guide Line to verify the correct application of AHS compliance policies, or to report activity that does not appear to meet ADU’s compliance standards, please contact Starr Bender, the ADU Chief Compliance Officer at 407-303-5765.

Purpose of the Compliance Program

The Adventist University of Health Sciences (“ADU” or “University”) Compliance Program (“Compliance Program” or “Program”) was formally adopted by the ADU Board of Directors in 2013 and serves as the ADU compliance program.

The Program is intended to demonstrate in the clearest possible terms the absolute commitment of the organization to the highest level of ethics and compliance.  The Program plays an integral role in the Company’s operations, and its standards are infused in the day-to-day business of the Company in educating, training, and enriching students who enroll at the University.

ADU is a Seventh-day Adventist institution that specializes in healthcare education. Its location next to Florida Hospital near downtown Orlando gives students access to unparalleled clinical opportunities in physicians’ offices, imaging centers, rehabilitation clinics, and Florida Hospital’s own world-class facilities.

The University’s guiding philosophy, Healthcare as Ministry, is based on the idea that true wellness is not achieved through medical care alone, but through healing relationships that speak to peoples’ minds, bodies, and souls. This philosophy underpins each course of our associate, bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate and online programs.
