Return to: Faculty Handbook Home

23.1 Dismissal

A faculty member may be dismissed, and a letter of appointment rescinded at any time for illegal practices, moral turpitude, mental incompetence, or acts of disrespect to the beliefs and teachings of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

A faculty member may be denied re-employment at the end of any contract for reasons other than those stated in the preceding paragraph. Notice shall be given to the faculty member no later than June 1 regarding non-issuance of a contract for the ensuing year.

23.2 Resignation

Faculty are expected to fulfill the terms of their letter of appointment and to complete the teaching assignment covered therein. Written notice of a faculty member’s desire to withdraw from teaching at the University subsequent to the fulfillment of his or her current letter of appointment shall be given to the President at least three months prior to the date on which the faculty member wishes to withdraw.

The faculty member must also submit an electronic notice of resignation through the HR Online Personal Information Portal. The employee is required to work during the notice time. Vacation time may not be used as part of the required notice period.  The faculty member is required to have an exit interview with the Office of Human Resources prior to, or on their last day of employment.

Any wish by a faculty member to discontinue employment prior to the completion of the work outlined in the letter of appointment shall be considered in light of the faculty member’s reasons for wishing to leave, the availability of competent replacement of the faculty member, and the general welfare of the University.

23.3 Calls to Other Seventh-day Adventist Institutions

The General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist’s policy found in the North American Division of General Conference Working Policy E 45 60 “Calls for Educational Employees” shall apply.

23.4 Retirement

The faculty retirement policy is that policy established by AdventHealth for all of its employees. Faculty who have had denominational employment prior to the 1992-1993 academic year retain certain rights in the Seventh-day Adventist Retirement Plan and should confer with the Benefits Manager of AdventHealth Human Resources Department regarding those rights.
