Health Sciences, A.S.

The Health Sciences, A.S. degree is designed as a pathway to a future bachelor’s degree in health sciences or related fields. It allows students to complete a significant portion of general education requirements before pursuing their bachelor’s degree.

Admission

To be accepted into the Health Sciences degree program, students must meet the general requirements for admission to AdventHealth University (see General Studies Admission  in the Admission Information  section), and:

  1. Submit the Health Sciences​ Program Application once admitted to the University. The application can be accessed at http://my.ahu.edu.
  2. Have a minimum cumulative high school unweighted GPA of 2.70 or have taken 12 college credits at a regionally accredited college with a minimum GPA of 2.70. GPAs presented to the admissions committee for each applicant will be a cumulative record of all college-level work.
  3. For general studies and program admission for the 2026-2027 academic year, AHU will be test-optional and not require submission of ACT or SAT scores. However, AHU strongly encourages applicants who have ACT and/or SAT scores to submit them during the application process, as this will expedite course placement and enhance academic advising. 

Progression

Students may progress in the Health Sciences degree program when they:

  1. Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.50.
  2. Earn a minimum grade of “C” (2.00) in all required courses and electives for the degree.
        a. Successfully repeat courses in which a minimum grade of “C” (2.00) was not achieved.

Readmission 

Students are considered for readmission to the AS Health Sciences degree program when they meet admission requirements and: 

  • Readmission is not automatic and is contingent on available class space and the discretion of the department chair. 

Students will be readmitted under new academic catalog program policies. Eligible students will be considered for readmission to the program when they complete the following: 

  • Submit a Readmission Form to the Health Humanities and Social Sciences chair eight weeks before the trimester in which seeking admission. 
  • Undergo a faculty review of prior academic performance, including reason(s) for withdrawal or dismissal, along with evidence of the applicant’s efforts to strengthen areas of weakness.

Completion

AdventHealth University will consider students for graduation and conferral of an Associate of Science degree in Health Sciences when they have met the general University requirements for graduation (see Graduation in the Academic Information  section), and have:

  1. Completed the prescribed course of study.
  2. Completed a minimum of 64 hours of credit, 50 percent of which must be earned at AdventHealth University.
  3. Achieved a minimum overall GPA of 2.50 with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 on all math and science requirements.
  4. Achieved a minimum grade of “C” (2.00) or above in all other required courses and electives for the degree.

  5. Complete the service-learning requirement.
  6. Completed competency assessment requirements.​

Curriculum


The general education courses required for all students enrolled in the Associate of Science degree program include General Psychology, English Composition I and II, World Civilization I or II, Introduction to Public Speaking, Health and Wellbeing, and six hours of religion courses.

Total General Requirements: 23 Credit Hours


Total Science and Math Requirements: 19 Credit Hours


Electives


The elective component of the graduation requirement is comprised of those courses beyond the core curriculum that may be needed for entry into a professional program at a four-year institution. These courses will be chosen by the student with the approval of an advisor.

Elective Requirement: 21 Credit Hours


Capstone


HTSC 250  Seminar in Pre-Professional Studies (1 credit) is a graduation requirement.

Capstone Requirement: 1 Credit Hour
