Return to: Department of Healthcare Administration
- Curriculum
This online program of study will provide students with the academic preparation for entry-level work in healthcare administration and/or continued study in healthcare administration at the graduate level.
Admission
- Submit an application online and nonrefundable $20 application fee.
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.70. Admissions GPAs will be calculated based on credits and grades from regionally accredited institutions only. Transcripts must be mailed or delivered electronically to AHU from each institution, or the applicant may deliver a transcript in a sealed envelope directly to the Office of Admissions. Faxed copies will not be considered official. Additionally, transcripts from institutions outside of the United States must be evaluated by World Education Services (WES).
- Present official transcripts for each Collegel Level Examination Program (CLEP), Advanced Placement (AP), and/or International Baccalaureate (IB) examination taken only if the applicant would like them to be considered for fulfillment or general education requirements.
- For general studies and program admission for the 2024-2025 academic year, AHU will be test-optional and not require submission of ACT or SAT scores. However, AHU strongly encourages applicants who have ACT and/or SAT scores to submit them during the application process, as this will expedite course placement and enhance academic advising.
Progression
- Academic Status and Notification. A student who is advancing in the program is considered in Good Academic Standing. Students on probation are not considered in Good Academic Standing. Please refer to the AHU Catalog for the complete definition of Good Academic Standing.
-
Academic Progress
1. Students may progress toward a Bachelor of Science degree when they:
-
Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.50.
-
Earn a minimum grade of “C+” in all Major Requirements, and earn a “C” in all other courses.
-
Successfully repeat courses in which a minimum grade of “C+” was not achieved in the Major Requirements, or a “C” in all other courses.
-
Earning a grade of a C- or below in gen-ed courses will impact a student in their progression in BSHA. The following gen-ed courses require a minimum grade of “C” to progress into further courses:
i. English 1 and 2
ii. Elementary Statistics
iii. College Algebra
2. Provisional Grades and Repeating Courses
-
After admission to the BSHA program, a student may repeat only five core courses for any reason.
-
Each core course and required elective may only be repeated twice for credit. This includes failing a course and withdrawing from a course.
-
Students who do not complete courses or do not meet the progression policy cannot be assured of placement in their choice of subsequent courses.
-
The incomplete (I) grade is a transcript grade which may be replaced by a passing grade should the student successfully pass the course meeting all the requirements therein. Please see the Grading Policy for all grading definitions.
i. If a student earns a C- or below in a course with an existing I, a grade of C- or below will be recorded on the transcript. Students that earn a C- will be notified in writing by the registrar’s office that they are at risk for academic probation or program dismissal. Students who earn a term GPA of 1.50 or below will automatically be dismissed from the BSHA program.
-
If a student withdraws (W, WF) from a core or required elective course, the student will only be permitted to retake the course one time.
i. Withdrawal from the same core or required elective course for a second time will be considered withdrawal from the program.
3. Academic Probation and Dismissal
-
Per AHU policy, a student is placed on academic probation when his or her trimester grade point average falls below 2.50.
-
Per AHU policy, a student will be academically dismissed if they fail to achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.50 after being placed on academic probation for two trimesters or if they earn a GPA below 1.50 during any trimester.
-
Withdrawal from the same core or required elective course for a second time will be considered withdrawal from the program. Please see the section above on Provisional Grades and Repeating Courses.
-
In accordance with university policy, a student may also be academically dismissed for:
i. Displaying a high degree of academic irresponsibility and academic dishonesty (see the Academic Integrity section of the AHU catalog).
4. Academic Performance Improvement Plan (A-PIP)
-
All students placed on academic probation must complete an Academic Performance Improvement Plan with their academic advisor. Failure to complete an A-PIP and improve minimum GPA requirements will result in academic dismissal.
5. Petition for Readmission
-
A student who has used all of the course repeat allowances listed in the Progression Policy is not eligible for readmission to the BSHA program.
-
Readmission is not automatic and is contingent on available class space and the discretion of the Department Chair.
-
Students will be readmitted under current program policies. Students who are eligible will be considered for readmission to the program when they complete the following:
i. Submit a Readmission Form to the Department of Healthcare Administration no later than six weeks prior to the beginning of the trimester in which they wish to enroll
ii. Hold a cumulative GPA of 2.50
iii. Meet any specified requirements as set forth by the Department of Healthcare Administration regarding the individual student
-
An invitation for reapplication does not automatically signify readmission into the BSHA program.
-
If a lapse of time greater than two years occurs in a student’s program of study, prior healthcare administration credits will not automatically be accepted.

AdventHealth University will consider students for graduation and conferral of a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration degree when they have met the general University requirements for graduation (see Graduation in the Academic Information section) and have:
